Context and objective

Context

Over recent years there has been a significant shift in how films are consumed by customers worldwide.

Customers are less likely to visit a store to find their favourite film to watch at home and instead are searching and watching online. This has seen increased competition from streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Client

A global video rental company, who, in order to remain competitive in the market, has reduced its own store numbers and is planning to use its existing movie licenses to launch an online video rental service.

Objective

To draw out answers to key operational questions to inform the strategy towards a Rockbuster online video rental service.

Data and tools

Dataset

The dataset used for this analysis was an open source dataset that contained information about Rockbuster’s film inventory, customers, and payments, among other things.
